Broad Creek Journal

(occasional notes about those things that make life on Broad Creek so special)

Notes from December 2002

A heron stood his ground as we tried to drive down Fork Point Road, only yielding way when he saw we were serious about passing.
December 13, 2002.

Attended our first "Spirit of Christmas" Parade in Oriental. Santa traveled through the town aboard a Coast Guard RIB.
December 14, 2002

This evening a black bear was spotted crossing Trent Road about four miles from the docks, far enough away to be cool, not so close as to be concerning.
December 16, 2002

A doe and her fawn were spotted on Fork Point Road. Our heron is back on Fork Point Road. We've nicknamed him "Harry." He seems to own this particular bend in the road.
December 18, 2002.

This morning a trio of otters swam up the creek, barely pausing to notice us making goofy noises at them. A heron landed on one of the docks and spent a good deal of time just wandering about.
December 19, 2002.

A blond fox loped into the treeline along Fork Point Road as we were coming home from town.
December 27, 2002.

At dusk, three deer were seen hanging around near Fork Point and Straight roads.
December 28, 2002.

We awoke early this morning to find Venus and the moon traveling close together through a violet sky. Pretty spectacular.
December 29, 2002.

We attended our first "Running of the Dragon" in Oriental. Next year we'll be sure to bring our noisemakers!
December 31, 2002.
